"Student life comprises of curricular and extra-curricular
activities. On one hand where curricular activities are responsible for
developing academic skills in students and judging their mental abilities,
extra-curricular activities enable students’ social phase and help them develop
socially, morally, intellectually and creatively. A healthy balance between the
two helps students in time management, improves academic performance, provides
stress free environment and also increases students’ interest in school.
Education in India is more of a process of inculcating
values, positive thinking, giving and helping attitude towards others than
earning as many degrees as possible. Students with these kinds of ethical
values are believed to bring about a change in the society and world. To
fulfill such an objective a balance between curricular and extra-curricular
activities is must. Such a balance has a great impact not only on students’
lives but also plays a significant role in shaping a society which students
form a base of.
In a study done by the US De(United States Department
of Education), it was revealed that the students who participate in
extra-curricular activities are three times more likely to have a better grade
point than those who do not participate.
I personally take interest in a few co-curricular
activities which involve drawing, painting and video editing. The motive behind
is these activities keep me engaged in a fun way and at the same time allow me
explore my creative side. Moreover, such activities are a great pass time for
relaxing and act as effective stress busters."
This was all about what I wrote for my brother for a classroom discussion under the topic 'Balance between curricular and co curricular activities'.
Hope it makes some sense for the school goers.
